Mind
The largest portion of my education has been the experience of life. This has been augmented by my father who answered all of my questions and curiosities, a Bachelor of Science degree from Plattsburgh State University College with a dual major in Nursing and Psychology, a Master of Science degree from Sage Graduate School in Troy New York with a dual major in Family Practice and Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing. I spent one year at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in the doctorate program. My first reading assignment, Sophie's World, exacerbated a spiritual crisis which lead to many changes in my life. Following came a series of journeys down the path of enlightenment and self-care. A two year apprenticeship in mind-body healing and the work of Wilhelm Reich, specific to his character defenses, followed. I have a private practice in Central Vermont that consists of therapy, psychopharmacology and mind-body healing.
Body
I love sports and I love to sweat. I love the feeling after a really good work out. My present favorite activities include tennis, weight training, walking/hiking and kayaking. I try to pay attention to what food I take in while at the same time adhering to the philosophy of everything in moderation. I have known for a long time the importance of water intake. What I have learned in the past couple of years is that most of us walk around in a state of chronic dehydration. It is amazing the difference in how I can think and in how I feel now that I am hydrated. I check in with my body on a regular basis (at least daily) and work to resolve any issues that I might notice, through my mind-body work.
Soul
My family history is one of significant trauma, as I imagine most probably are. I have spent my life trying to understand myself and my family. I have battled my own demons and experienced some dark nights of the soul along the way. Grandfather Bear Heart taught me that the meaning of our suffering is compassion. Knowing this, life makes sense to me now. I am a connector and I have my mother to thank for this. Relationships are a priority in my life. This does mean my relationship with me as well.
Spirit
I was raised Catholic and presently love Jesus. My journey has led me to respect and appreciate many spiritual traditions and I now have an eclectic world view. I feel connected to the universe and this is a peaceful place. Meditation and prayer have changed my life.
